"This is it..." [Semi-closed post]

The evening of the day after what she's guessed is Mother's Day, after a cool but muggy day threatening rain. Viv is resting in her room, too big to be comfortable, and it should be any day now that the twins will be born. She's set up a crib she'd found in the attic and there's a basket of baby clothes and toys she's collected from the Plothole over several days and weeks, not wanting to wear out her welcome.

The humidity has made her sleepy and so she sets aside her book, settling down on her pillows, closing her eyes.

A rumble of thunder awakens her from a light snooze, but that's not the only thing that's awakened her: she's having an odd feeling in her belly, a tightening that's a prelude to the contractions to come, and having been through this twice before, she knows exactly what is happening.

She climbs off the bed, trying to keep her breathing steady and deep, as she fumbles for a bag of baby things she's put together before shuffling to the door.

She's only just got the door open, when a pain like the worst menstrual cramps imaginable twists her insides. Unsteadied, she grips the doorframe, emitting a choked cry of pain....

For the folks who offered to help out with the delivery. This is the moment: Warning for medical matters, pain, blood and eventual character death.

At that time, Eda will be walking towards her room, sans her gun which is where she's headed. She's planning to turn in for the night, until she spots Vivien.

“Hey are you-” She then notices that the red-headed lady is very, very, pregnant.

“Oh shit... you're in labor.” For about a half a minute, Eda is clueless about what to do... until her brain comes back.

Without asking any questions, Eda helps Viven up and is rushing her down the hallway, calling out for anybody who can help.

Viv is panting audibly, but steadily. "Yeah... oh... yeah, it's... not my first child..." she puffs. "Doctor Muraki or... Doctor O'Donovan ...they're... looking after me."
May. 17th, 2012 08:32 pm (UTC)
“Doctor Muraki... I know that guy. Want to tell me where his clinic or practice is?” As she guides Vivien to wherever, she may smile.

“I'm bein' rude, names Eda. And you are, mama?”

"Clinic's...downstairs," she says, trying to keep her breathing even, but she ends up moaning as another contraction roils through her insides.

"Vivien... Glad... you're here," she says, managing a brave smile.

On the way to the clinic, Eda may run across a small old woman with eyes the size of saucers in the hallway and immediately starts to follow them.

"Who the hell are you?" Eda asks the stranger.

"I'm a midwife, I assume you're looking for a Kazutaka Muraki?"

"Yeah... we are."

"Give her over to me, I'll lead her the doctor."

Eda looks over at Viv, her head put in such a way to ask a wordless question.

"I... more help the better," Vivien pants. Then to the newcomer, she asks, "Who... are you?"

That evening, Hisoka is making his rounds on Shadow Angels' watch.

On his way to the basement stairway just off the kitchen hallway, he detours through the kitchen and opens the screen door and goes out to stand on the porch for a few minutes. There is a storm blowing up, and the treetops are rocking. The first drops hit the porch stairs. Hisoka puts his hand out and it is spattered with warm rain. But the temperature is dropping, as it will for a spring thunderstorm. Clouds are banking up high in the sky, and they are lit with flickers of white or violet from moment to moment as lightening leaps between the vast thunderheads. Hisoka decides to tank up on coffee before he goes downstairs.

[I'm leaving this post now, although Hisoka won't make it downstairs until the pandemonium has already started. This is just to put him on the scene.]

As if by magic, Justin is at her side, holding her hand. "Oh wow, mamacita, this is it, huh?" he murmurs. She's in so much pain, and not that he's an expert, but can't they do something for her?
Jun. 20th, 2012 03:05 am (UTC)
"Yeah, this is... it... this is the...big moment," she says, managing a brave little smile.
Jun. 29th, 2012 08:45 am (UTC)
"Two big moments," Justin smiles, hoping it's encouraging. "You're going to do fine. You've done it before, after all, right?"
Jun. 30th, 2012 02:58 am (UTC)
"Did it...two times before..." she says. "Once with Violet, their big sister... and once with what would have been their big brother..."

Justin's smile falters and he reaches out to lightly stroke the hair off the expectant mother's face. "Deep breaths and we'll get through this." And we won't be losing either of these babes!

"It's... just... ufhh... painful," she says, managing to smile up at Justin in spite of the pain. Her wee ones will have a very pretty godparent, when they're born.

"I'll have to take your word for it, but I believe you, baby doll. It's doesn't last forever though," Justin tries to reassure her. He smiles back at her, but he clearly hates seeing her in pain.

"You're... you're right..." she pants. Then managing a smile, she says, "And then... the twins will be ...here."
Aug. 13th, 2012 03:00 am (UTC)
"Yes! And we'll spoil them rotten," Justin grins, even as he casts quick glances over his shoulder at the attendants. Can't they hurry this up? Or more so, can't they ease her pain?!
